It is the last month of the year where the world seems like at a turning point.
Here in the Bay Area, California, we have seen some major peace movements against the terrorism and war. As looking back at the year, here, I am going to talk about "Mandala of Joy” through the Earth Language thinking way based on Nature.

Mandara of Joy

When I hear the phrase “happy person, a memory flashes back to my mind.

About 20 years ago in northwestern Japan, I once had a chance of getting onto a fishing boat,
which usually does not allow women to be on board.
Offshore these men pull out the fishing net that had been set beforehand from two small boats.
As they pull out the net with all their might, their tanned faces turn brighter.
Even their muscle furrows seem to get sparkled as the fresh fishes jump around the net on the deck.
While other fishermen clean up the net after taking down all the fishes onto the bottom of
the boat, an old man grabs a couple of still rowdy fishes.
He scales them on the worn-out cutting board,
and the fish becomes a mound of Sashimi on a big bowl.
When some soy sauce and grated ginger are sprinkled on it, everyone is set.
The old man pours sacred sake into the sea as to show their appreciation.
The feast starts to celebrate today’s mercy from the nature with the fish bowl, sake
and cans of beer. “Eat, eat! It’s good-eat’n,” they say offering the Sashimi to me, too.
“Good-eat’n!” Their dialect transfers to me as the joy wells up my body.
“Us folks are the happiest guys in the world!”
Sea men shout as they raise the cups up to the sky and stuff their mouths with Sashimi.

Since then, this scene became one of my standard measurements of happiness.
Do you appreciate your happiness like them everyday?

Bio-chemically speaking,
joy of the human is a state that the feeling-hormone called dopamine is active,
and the connected nerves are widely related to instincts, intelligence and movements.
Drinking and eating after severe thirst and hunger, being able to urinate after waiting so long,
putting cold hands and feet into warm water, and making love after longing;
we all get filled with the feeling of joy.

The structure of these instinctive joys can also be seen in other mammals.
Lower animals like Halocynthia roretzi do not have dopamine, instead, they shrink their bodystimulated
by the fear- hormone called epinephrine.
Vertebrates have added norepinephrine that works to get anger and arouse the energy.

As evolution of life progress, Nature has deepened mysterious phenomenon
of the feeling by simplifying the structure of hormone and connecting it to the various organs.
We cower our body with fear, great strength burst momentary with anger
as our existence is near invasion, we keep doing daily routines to live life
as we are tempted by the feeling of joy; those are the mechanisms
that Nature gave us to protect live individuals and to maintain the species.

Higher animals such as mammals that protect each life
by the memory of experience have deeper and more complicated feelings
as their area of dopamine widely range. Humans obtain various joys
through the experience after birth, adding onto the instinctive joy
inherited through the primitive era.
Humans have endlessly wide and deep reasons to feel joy;
recognize, understand, acquire the wanting, learn to do new things, achieve one’s purpose,
find a beauty in the combination and flow of move/sound/light/color/taste/smell/touch,  etc,
create, sympathize, be useful for someone else, connect with society and history,
seek after truth, and touch the infinity… It’s because the dopamine is connected
to the frontal lobe that “integrates” the stimulus information and images in its memory.

Nature must have designed the structure of the human mind to deeply appreciate the harmony
of the live world, which Nature itself has created.
(heart)is a function that raises and activates the(life).
(fear)is (cowered) (heart/feeling),
(anger) is the of (burst energy of
confrontation, shaping like lightning),
and (joy) is the
    of (opened and expanding energy).
Smile is a phenomenon when you see joy in you.

Fear and anger hormones do not influence the brain,
which delicately adjusts body movements and thoughts.
That is why, under the state of fear and anger, we only make rough judgments and actions,
and cannot establish normal communication. Terrorism and the war against terrorism
cannot be considered as the means of evolved, humanlike communication.

Humans have ability to accept joy at all times.
If each of us opens our mind and broadens our hearts,
the world can vividly connect. If one is a human, s/he will realize that before long.

Fishermen’s life is an everyday repetition of heavy work.
Nevertheless why are their faces so bright?
They are with friends that they can open up their hearts.
Together, they enjoy the joy of physical exercise that they devote themselves completely.
And that supports their family’s lives. Each family awaits their return.
Blessing of the sea greets them everyday. As they pull the nets, they become Nature itself
just like their grandfathers and great grandfathers or even way before then.
Appreciation of the joy repeatedly flows into them.

Hard fishermen’s lives depend on the sea. Pollution might fall onto the sea.
They never know if they are going to catch a fish tomorrow. They are far away from wealth and fame.
It is no wonder if fear, anger, or despair rule over everything, but fishermen are cheerful,
believing in Nature. Supported by the joy, they rebirth together with the sea.

In ancient times, there must have been such a happy people all over the world.
There must had been farmers and stock farmers who believed in (God) instead of (Nature).
When they connected with eternity as they looked at the God of Origin  intently,
the feeling of joy and appreciation sprang. Because of that, they could bear the hard work.

On the contrary, people (enjoy) games and TVs in the modern urban life.
Hormone of (joy) can be even taken through drugs.
People can get temporary satisfaction and happy feeling by these ways.
But by these ways, they don’t move their bodies nor make any trial or error for devising a new creation.
That is why the accumulation of those joyful memories on ones’ body and life is shallow and rootless.
The mechanism of joy in our bodies wants to connect widely and deeply.
When the joy is shallow, it cannot be content and starts to wonder around
seeking easy satisfactions one after another.

You must want to pull the net by yourself. Rebirthing sea of blessing lies within everyone’s body
and also lies between people.
