I've been a non-political woman until now. But since I've read many Y2K web-sites and joined gatherings to learn it, I started to think about the meaning of Y2K for human beings now, and I would like to suggest using Y2K problem positively to straighten the future world, not only just running to fix it. Any minus matters could bring a chance to change the direction to plus by consciousness. The Y2K is the only chance to collect focuses of entire human beings to decide the heading direction of the Earth Ship, never happened in the history and nobody wants it over again.
Y2K bugs involve all areas of our lives, but this story focuses on the world's nuclear systems. The U.S. and the Japanese governments say that their systems are completed to fix bugs by the end of November, but still few scientists have alarming concerns about Y2K crisis*. For fixing or exchanging a hundred to several hundred microchips per one facility world wide, time is not enough, they say. "While Y2K can pose a danger to routine reactor control systems, the major risk involves a power blackout engulfing the plant, failure of back-up generating systems, loss of cooling, and meltdown - the consequences of which, within the space of one or two hours, could match the Chernobyl disaster."( NY Times opinion ad Oct. 22 ) Also the mistaken launch of nuclear missiles could happen by those Y2K bugs. "There is a very real danger that Y2K will multiply the false hostile launch reports which have in the past brought both Russian and U.S. forces within minutes of launching before the mistake is discovered."
As long as being born, lives are heading to death, but all creatures must have instinct to make effort to save their species. Now civilized common people's instinct seems to be thinner, and at some part they abnormally seek returning to the end of lives. The free competitive world has produced varieties of devices for easiness, but easiness is not equal to health. Even young people look tired by the stress from competitive society. Material civilization changed the environment, and an individual is influenced by it unrelated to his will. A result of effort of an individual is converted into money, but sometimes big money moves by fortune without effort. The flowing of a numeral-expressed present society goes on tumbling human nature which center is its life. An individual is a part of the flowing, but he feels that the flowing is far beyond to himself. Getting used to be in an easy way, people feel better with accelerating the flowing than changing it. If it continues accelerating more and more on this direction, it looks similar to the composition of a large crowd of rats who haste to jump into the ocean.
Isn't it the time to choose the way which we take, bringing the end of the world soon or longer surviving? If we want to survive longer, isn't it "now" to change the current way? Seeing the composition of the current societies, we could know that it's important for an individual to find out each own true spirit and life instead of counting on easiness and money, also to have a consciousness to feel that actually his action relates to move the world. But changing the world at once sounds like just a dream.
But Y2K problem has the potential to make it. As an element, it has
abilities of both bringing the end of the world and preventing it by human
will, contrary to natural disasters. The scientists says that we can prevent
the nuclear problems safely by
1) preparing reliable emergency back up electrical generators at every nuclear
reactor in the world,
2) turning off all nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert before January
1, 2000.
If we don't choose this safest way, it would be the deadliest gamble in
history. Even if luckily nothing dangerous happens, the current will continue
to run as it was without any change of people's consciousness. If we take
the safest way with some low energy difficulty, the decision would remain
in history as human beings chose "future lives" instead of "money". People
of the next century will be impressed with the new consciousness for their
life style.
Y2K bugs and recent environmental phenomena let us know that gathering of small misses and cheats could bring the world in danger. If we choose "future lives", it's very important for each of all people to have a sharp eye not to pass over it. Instead of hiding risks for preventing panic, now we need to face to the truth, recovering our real lives and instinct to survive overcoming problems consciously, don't we?
Another potential of Y2K is in the negative element which occurs by taking measures against nuclear power plant problems and other majority problems of Y2K bugs. It's in mid winter in the northern hemisphere. While electric power is low, daily lives must be difficult and economical movement has to go down. Patience, devices and cooperation are what people must learn to get through it. Even present careless people might awake getting back their instinct and know joy of devising, corroborating and cooperating. Experiences of a hard time can let people know how they were wasters and how nature was mercy. This must be too wild treatment for normal time, but Y2K treats hundreds millions people in that way at once letting them recall their original beings and true importance. Maybe people after the experience will start to think and act seriously to keep the environment in better condition, and they will like harmonizing the world better than always competing. Because of having had the joy of uniting each other to survive for the same hard time and to save future lives. When people seek harmonizing the world, Earth Language can help them and be active. :(smile)
The coming hard time experience has such important meanings. So don't just try to avoid thinking about it. Feel and raise the consciousness of relation of your LIFE and Y2K, and let's act to take the safest way for Y2K. That is my opinion. To bring the countries who don't understand the Y2K risks yet to that way, maybe technically advanced nations need dare to shut their power plants to lead them and to stand on the same situation. Also the experience of hard time effects more for the people of advanced countries. While people work together exchanging knowledge, wisdom and efforts against the common risks and problems, cooperating with each other countries supporting the hard areas to do the right way in a hurry, the individuals must feel a blood relation to the world. Healthier and lively world we would see after the turning point, I hope.
In the beginning of this century, the luxury liner Titanic rushed to the risky icy ocean without taking a roundabout way and violently went down for her maiden voyage. Nobody had doubted her safe voyage with her great looking, but when a large iceberg was seen in front, she couldn't change direction so quickly because of her greatness. Now just in front of the Earth Ship, numberless small icebergs are floating. Some of them might connect together under sea as huge dangerous lumps. The time doesn't wait for us counting down. (praying)

Thank you for your thoughts on Y2K. I hope and pray that the terrible possibilities
of nuclear accident don't happen. But to tell the truth I dont think that
there is anything we (you and me and our families and friends) can do to prevent
such major events.
I do think that we are a point of major change now. I think the millenium vortext is real if only from the viewpoint of collective consciousness. But I also think (most folks will not agree) that there is a Cosmic or Divine Mind that is "calling" us to GOODNESS especially now. Its kind of like human birthdays. No matter how we view or celebrate them they make people stop and think (if only for a moment) about their life and their death. If this "call" is to prepare us all to face a Darkness to come I dont know. There is a part of me that thinks that. (Where is Frank Black now that we need him?). I think we all need to do some Spiritual preparations now too. Prayer, silence, listening, Asking Divine Source for wisdom and calm, Praying for future generations and our children to be able to live fully in Joy. Praying for the planet and all that inhabit it. But I honestly think Prayer does change worlds and universes, and all time and history can be forever changed in one brief moment where Prayer meets Souce . Maybe the meltdown that will happen will be in our hearts.
My wife and I are preparing food, batteries, water, gasoline, cash, protection, etc to last a few weeks at least. Beyond that I pray nothing happens and that we can have a party with the left over surpplies or save it for earthquake readiness.
Thank you for your warm heart and great concern.

I have seen some of the reports you talk of. one thing i have noticed is
that most of the ones who seem to be so involved in the hysteria surrounding
y2k are of an apocalyptic bend of mind. the most adamant are christians
who need this to be true to bolster the fact that if there is not such a
cataclysm soon the predictions and propositions of christian belief will
prove wrong. personally i think for me, i always try to be prepared for emergencies
but i refuse to get involved in the hysteria. one can always find someone
who will see the most negative. they serve to make us aware but we shouldn't
believe everything we hear.
